Hare Krishna

It has taken me awhile to report on my trip to Utah, but I figured I better get it done or I would forget all the good details. Hyrum, Jenn, and I traveled down to Utah this weekend to participate in the Holi Festival of Colors. I’ve always wanted to do it, and I convinced Jenn and Hyrum to come with me. My family also spent their spring break in Utah too so my little sisters Maddie and Mariah came with us. Friday night we went straight to our hotel where we met up with my brother Austin, Kenzie and baby Liam. I love them all, but especially the baby! So we took him swimming…

The next morning we got up and headed out to Spanish Fork, UT to catch a bus to the Krishna Temple. This is where the Festival is held every year. It’s a festival to celebrate Spring, peace, and burning of the witch (which I didn’t get a picture of dangit!). Anyway, thousands of people now attend and it’s a festival in which you throw packets of color in the air. The color is just scented corn starch, but don’t get me wrong your clothes will be ruined! We also had to wear bandanas over our mouth so you wouldn't breath in the dust. As soon as the color was thrown it looked like an We went with some other people from Parma and seriously had so much fun. I’m glad that my sisters were there too! Before you throw the colors you chant a prayer ending with Hire Krishna! I loved it, and loved spending time with my family and Jenn!

Ok and one more of Baby Liam getting ready for a nap!

Blackberry My Love

Ok so I got a new phone, not just any phone, but a Blackberry! I know right? Welcome to the 21st Century Savanna! It's so fun, and very pretty, I got the Curve 8530 (as displayed below). I'm still learning all the tricks of it, but I'm very happy. I researched long and hard for my next phone and I'm pleased. So if you own a Blackberry let me know what you LOVE about it. Right now, I'm loving the Facebook App!

On a different note, I'm going to Utah this weekend so see my family (and baby nephew of course), and to go to the Holi Color Festival. It's something I've had on my bucket list and I cannot wait to cross it off. In case you were wondering what it is, here is a link to their website Holi Color Festival.  Happy Friday! :)

Nonsense

I had a pretty laid back weekend. Well ok, I take that back, I babysat the kids (the ones I used to watch), and that was Friday night. Saturday I tried to fit some reading in but was so tired so took a nice long nap, and then Brittany and Jenn both wanted to do something. Jenn suggested we do something crafty, so we made our way to Porters. I LOVE THIS STORE! So maybe cute and creative ideas! I decided on doing some wall hangings, and found all the necessary props to go with it. We then went to Fongs (delish!) and then to Hollywood Video. Hollywood Video is going out of business (I know it’s a sad day in Rexburg, but truth me they were just too expensive to compete with Redbox), and they are selling ALL of their movies. So far they aren’t THAT cheap but I did purchase some that were on a pretty good deal. I’m sure by the end the movies will be so cheap! We then made it back over to my place where we watched Couples Retreat (funny, but could have been funnier). It was actually a great weekend, church was great and I finished my book (The Van Alen Legacy)! YAY! Yesterday I finished another book called The Way We Knew. Oh wow, it’s about how this asteroid hits the moon and causes all these natural disasters and how this family survives on very little. It has got me scared outta my mind! Then for FHE we did our 72 hour kits and it snowed. SIGN OF THE TIMES! Needless to say I watched some Dancing with the Stars and felt better. This weekend we are headed to Utah to see friends and family and maybe go to the Color Festival. I’m excited!

Bookworm Alert!

Wow, I can’t believe it’s Friday already. Crazy! So lately I’ve just been obsessing about books, it’s so weird. I mean I’ve always LOVED to read but I found that good book not only pulls you into a whole other world, but it also makes you want to read as much as you can! I just barely finished the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. I’ve been working on this series for awhile now, and finally I finished them (ok so it might have taken be 3 months to read the third book)I guess I made it a priority. Still the 5th book was amazing and now I cannot wait to read more. Actually, backup, before Percy came the Hunger Games. Oh my, if you haven’t read it yet, get on it! I’m such a history buff (good thing I got a degree in it) and the parallels of our world and our mistakes is crazy! Anyway, my brother Hyrum has also become a huge bookworm like me, and so we’ve both been building our library and swapping books. My mom got him 4 new books for his birthday and I can’t wait to read them. Actually now that I think about it, our entire family loves to read, except Mariah, but she’s always the exception. My roommate Sarah is also an avid reader and so is my friend Kristin from work, and Austin & Kenzie, so between us we’ve got some good references and referrals. That’s the best, personal referrals! My Aunt Becky introduced me to a site called goodreads.com! Holy cow where has that been my whole life? You can search through millions of books (I’m sure millions!) and read reviews and synopsis’s, it’s fantastic. I already have close to 20 books on my list of “to read”. HA! I sometimes wished I lived in a huge city with a huge library so I wouldn’t have to be 10th on a waiting list for a book I desperately want to read. So as summer is starting to slowly come (please tomorrow is the 1st day of Spring) I now have a list of books I’m looking forward to reading, and by all means I’m always looking for more suggestions!

Service with a Smile

I had a busy weekend, which is good for me. Friday night a bunch of people from my ward had a pj party accompanied with cold cereal and Saturday morning cartoons from our childhood AND I might have snuck in some Saved by the Bell. After all, it’s my favorite childhood show! We watched a couple episodes, and it was fun! Saturday I had the great experience to help plan and take care of a funeral for my bishop’s brother. Since his brother wanted to be buried in Rexburg, the bishop presided over it in his home ward which is our single’s ward. I’ve only been Relief Society President for a little over a month and so when he approached me to help with the funeral I thought, oh wow, how am I going to do this? To add to that, it was for 200 people. Yowzers! I have such a great group of girls, and amazing counselors so we were able to have adequate food and help all day Saturday. I really loved just serving my bishop, what a great opportunity for me and for our ward! Since I had been on my feet for 6 hours I went straight home and put on my pj’s and watched a Lifetime movie! HA! Yesterday Jenn and Hyrum came over, and I always love when they do, we watched Minute to Win It! It’s my new favorite game show, and I aspire to someday be a contestant! You can go here and learn more about the games they play. I’m excited for this week because it’s my brother Hyrum’s birthday on Tuesday. I sure do love this kid, and I can’t wait to celebrate it with him!

Radio Gods

My friend Jenn has a rockin' blog in which she blogs about music (rockthemixx.com/blog). It's pretty sweet, I enjoy reading it. It's obviously different then my blog, because hers actually has purpose as I write mostly about my crazy life! But today, I will blog about music. Anyway, today as I was driving to work (about a 25 minute commute) I usually listen to a book on tape, because the radio annoys me, but this morning was different. After a rough couple of days I didn't want to listen to a serious book so I turned up the radio (hard to say where my iPod was). I'm pretty sure the Radio Gods were happy that I decided to listen to them for once and played 5 songs that are my favorite right now, SAY WHAT? Ok, so granted they weren't on the same stations, but still, that's lucky! Right now I'm so in love with Hip/Hop or you know dance R&B aka Jason DeRulo, Taio Cruz, etc... Both of their songs came on the Radio and I cranked it, making myself a Crankstar! I was jamming out, when I looked up and saw that the person in front of me was totally making fun of me. HA HA, I found it quite humorous that someone would actually pay attention to me, so I waved. Maybe they got embarrassed because I caught them, but they clearly weren't having the best morning like I was, so they flipped me off. BAHAHA!! I didn't really know what to do first, get mad, or laugh about it. I was in too good of a mood to get mad so I laughed, and not just a chuckle, but a good laugh. So on this great day I owe a debt of gratitude to the Radio Gods, the man who loves his middle finger, and to Friday!

Alice in Wonderland & the Oscars

We went and saw this movie this weekend (in 3D of course).  It was so good.  Although, I don't think seeing it in 3D is necessary.  I think Avatar set my expectations WAY too high for 3D movies.  Gosh!  It was just so delightful and Mr. Johnny Depp himself was glorious.  I want him to win an Oscar next.  Speaking of the Oscars, they were on last night! I love them! I cried during Monique's and Sandra's speeches.  Both touching, and both well deserved.  I mostly love to look at all the spectacular dresses. What was your favorite dress or actual part of the telecast? My favorites are:
J.Lo looking divine as usual
Demi Moore - This lady is like 55, HOT!
Worst dressed for me went to Zoe Saldana:
from the waste up it's beautiful but the bottom half just ruins it for me
And really Charlize Theron? UGH!
There were more hits than misses this year.  I love ew.com, they have the best (and funniest) Oscar coverage!  Oh wait I forgot to add my most favorite of the night, my boyfriend Zac Efron:

All you need to see is his amazing face and rockin' hair. Oh swoon!
My favorite part was the dancers, GO Adam Shankman!  Ok I guess I'll also include some pictures of my dear friends at Alice too!

Good Friends

I’ve had a crazy weekend, and of course with drama. Actually it’s drama that doesn’t involve me, just those I care about. I’ve come to realize how important real / true friends are. Good friends won’t make you feel worse about yourself, but actually build you up. Make you want to be a better person.  Last night there was a CES Fireside that talked about this exact thing, it was so what I needed to hear as well as a couple of my troubled friends! You also know that a true friend will let you have your bad moments but forgive you anyway. It’s hard to tell someone things like that. Or worse yet, how do you confront that person who is so wretched to your other friends? I used to think this person was my friend, until they realized it was no longer convenient to be nice to me. It’s even worse when you see someone who you love go through and be treated the exactly same way I was treated. You’re too good for that I want to yell, don’t you see how great you are? But a year ago I was the same, all sorts of people were screaming that exact phrase to me. Savanna, don’t you see you don’t deserve this? But alas, you have to learn it for yourself! So I’ll try to be that good friend that’s supportive and more importantly loving.

Colbie Caillat

I had a pretty good weekend I must say. I first got to enjoy bowling with my dear brother and his friends. We played many a silly games, but Hyrum did end up winning us some free Pizza Hut so holla!! It was fun. Saturday I slept in, which was desperately needed, and then just spent the morning catching up on my DVR. I love my DVR, it allows me to watch my shows and still have a social life. It allows me to fast forward commercials etc… But when I get behind on my DVR it’s the daunting task. Sometimes it’s such chore to catch up. I mean I love to watch it, but sometimes it just gets to be too much. I know, I shouldn’t let it bother me. Anyway… Saturday was the Colbie Caillat Concert. We first made a stop at Red Lobster, it will always be a mystery as to why they chose Pocatello, ID to place this beloved restaurant. I HATE POCATELLO. I call it the armpit of Idaho. UGH! Anyway, so we had Lobsterfest (delightfully yummy) and then made our way to the concert. Which was so good, Colbie is very talented and very pretty! It really wasn’t a rock concert, very chill, and didn’t really compare to David Cook or Kelly Clarkson but still I enjoyed it very much.

For the record I LOVED her boots, but why they were brown and her dress was black will surpass my understanding!
